Alderton Infants

The Alderton Infant School shares a site with the Juniors.  The two schools work closely together to ensure a smooth learning journey from Reception through to Year 6.  This is achieved in a number of ways:

  • Well planned transition from year 2 to year 3.  This includes a years 2 and 3 themed project week which, is 'Georges Marvellous Medicene'.  A series of lessons and activities are planned to help prepare the children in year 2 for the move to the Juniors.
  • Planned meetings and events in the Juniors for parents of children in year 2.
  • Joint policies on key aspects of school such as Attendance.
  • A shared Maths scheme 'Abacus' to ensure maximum progression in this key subject.
  • Shared professional development between school staff with teachers in the Infant School spending time in the Juniors and vice versa.
  • Governors who hold a position on both Governing Bodies.
  • Information sharing between schools when our families fall into difficulties, to ensure the children are appropriately supported.
  • Regular meetings between Mrs Dalby, the Infant Headteacher and Mrs Fox, the Junior Headteacher.
  • Shared moderation of assessment with year 2 and year 3 teachers.
  • Regular contact between Mrs Wilkinson, the Infant SENCo and Mr, Lois the Junior SENCo, to ensure children with additional needs are well supported.
