Year 3- Learning News and Information

Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back. We hope you had a wonderful break. This week in Literacy, Year 3 pupils began reading the adventurous story of Five Children and It. We are using this text to explore issues and dilemmas, as well as using it as a model to write their own dilemma stories. Next week will be our shared writing of dilemma stories. In Maths this week, pupils were using measurement to weigh and measure various items. They also converted measures and looked at the perimeter of 2D shapes. Next week we will be revisiting multiplication and division. This time children will be learning the written method to these in addition.

Next week Friday is Science day. This will be a day filled with lots of exciting practical enquiries. In RE next week, we will be starting the topic of Judaism, looking at the foundations of Judaism.

Notices and reminders:

  • Some children are still forgetting to bring in their P.E kits. P.E kits must be in school every day. P.E is a statutory and compulsory part of the National Curriculum and all pupils are expected to take part in every lesson.  If your child cannot participate in the lesson, please discuss this with the class teacher prior to the day of the lesson and provide any necessary medical advice from a doctor.
  • Lunch money should be handed in on Mondays, in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and class written on it.
  • Please be reminded of the school’s uniform policy now that weather is increasing in temperature. You can access the school’s uniform details via this web link:
  • Monday 11th June is a Sports Day! Children to come to school in their PE kits as notified and parents/carers may come and support your child in the afternoon.
  • PA’s Father’s Day breakfast is on the 15th of June for all those who requested it.

Have a relaxing weekend.

Best wishes,

Miss Dyer, Miss Bradley and Mrs. Ulkun.

Home Learning

As a school, we have reviewed how we provide Home Learning for our pupils and families. Feedback from parents/carers suggested that pupils needed more time to complete tasks, would enjoy a range of tasks and needed more opportunities to be creative.

We have provided 20 Home Learning Challenges for pupils to complete over the half term. Pupils can choose to complete as many as they can, and choose the way in which they would like to present their learning.

Home Learning Challenges are due in to school on Monday 16th July 2018 where they will be shared and acknowledged in class as a celebration of achievements. Pupils will receive 2 House Points for every piece they complete.

Please find this half term's Home Learning below.

Curriculum Web

To ensure parents and carers are always informed regarding what pupils are learning in class, we have created Curriculum Webs, where details of all current and future learning for the half term can be found.

Please note that one piece of Home Learning will link directly to the current topic and is considered a key learning task where pupils can be creative and use their critical thinking skills, e.g. in Year 3, pupils are asked to design and create their own Roman solider which they can present in any way they wish.
